Pray for Sag Harbor & the East End Communities
The Community Bible Church (CBC) is located in Sag Harbor. (Actually, we are officially located in Noyac which is just outside Sag Harbor but most people have never heard of Noyac and they sometimes get it confused with Nyack, outside of NYC, so we say Sag Harbor.)
Sag Harbor is located on the South Fork which is made up of two towns, Southampton & East Hampton which in turn are made up of smaller villages and hamlets. The North Fork is made up of two towns as well, Riverhead & Southold which are also made up of smaller villages and hamlets. Shelter Island is a town unto itself and is located in between the Forks.
It’s our desire to reach out to the twin forks of the East End with the Good News of the Gospel. Jesus commanded His disciples in Mark 16 to “Go, and preach the Gospel to every creature…” In Acts 1 He said that His disciples were to be His witnesses starting in Jerusalem and then proclaiming the Gospel to the ends of the earth. We believe that this means we are to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ in our Jerusalem, which is the East End of Long Island, as well as to the ends of the earth.
How many people live on the East End of Long Island year round? According to the 2010 census numbers:
Southampton Town 56,790
East Hampton Town 21,457
Shelter Island 2,392
Southold Town 21,968
Riverhead Town 33,506
Which is a total of 136,113 year round residents and statistics say that the population doubles in the summer months.
How many people on the East End are Christians? That, I do not know, but I do know, that of the handful of Bible believing churches on the East End, most of them have an attendance of 200 people or less. Which means there are a lot of people on the East End who do not attend church regularly.
How can we reach out to so many people on the East End with the Gospel? It starts with prayer. Would you commit yourself to pray for the East End? Pray for souls to be saved. Pray for the church to be equipped to do the work of the ministry (Eph 4:12). Pray for Christians on the East End to be His witnesses and to do the work of an evangelist.
This chart breaks down the population by village and hamlet. It contains most but not all of the villages and hamlets on the East End categorized by Town. It does not include the town of Shelter Island whose population is listed above.
Pick one of the villages and hamlets listed and pray for that specific community. Pray that God blesses that community and that He would would bring revival and awakening.
All of the towns and villages on the East End have their roots in Christianity and the church. When they were founded in the 1600’s and 1700’s most of the population was Christian and attended church. In fact in the 1700’s & 1800’s revival came the East End.
Another way that CBC is reaching out to East End is through our radio station, Faith FM which also reaches out to a large part of Brookhaven Town which has a population of 486,480.
Pray that God would bring Revival & Awakening!
