church name change
Dear CBC Family & Friends,
You may have heard that we are changing the name of our church to Hamptons Christian Fellowship which we believe better defines who we are as a church and will help us communicate more effectively with the Eastern Long Island Community.
Our first Sunday Services as Hamptons Christian Fellowship will be this Sunday July 2nd and we would be delighted and blessed if you would join us. We are also going to two services at 8:00 & 10:00 AM. I will be sharing a message from 1st Peter 3 entitled “New Beginnings,” in which I will share what the Lord intends His church to be, and therefore what kind of church Hamptons Christian Fellowship should be based on God’s Word.
Just to be clear, our doctrine is not changing and we will still emphasize the expository and verse by verse teaching & preaching of the Bible and the leading & empowering by the Holy Spirit, which are hallmarks of the Calvary Chapel churches that we are affiliated with. We believe God has done, and is doing, a good work in and through our church and we want to let more people know about our church, especially those who live on Eastern Long Island and in particular the Hamptons. In obedience to God’s Word, we will to continue to share the Gospel with as many people on Eastern Long Island as possible and co-labor with Christ as He builds His church in the Hamptons, and we believe this new name will help us in our mission. We will soon be launching a new web site called hamptonschristian.com which will combine the church and our radio station, Faith FM into one website.
The Community Bible Church name has served us well since 1961 when Bill & Harriet Steck founded the church. Before 1961 the ministry was called the Family Bible Hour and so there is precedent for changing the name. We have gone from Family, to Community, to Hamptons which is the recognizable name of the region. Meg’s Mom, Lyn Ashe, who is the daughter of the late Bill & Harriet Steck, commented that she believes Pastor Bill Steck would be in agreement with this decision as it was always Bill & Harriet’s desire to communicate the Gospel as effectively as possible with the surrounding community.
We are excited as we begin this new chapter in the history of our church and we would be so honored and blessed if you would attend our first Sunday services as Hamptons Christian Fellowship this Sunday July 2nd at 8:00 & 10:00 AM. If you cannot attend this Sunday we hope to see you soon at one of our services this summer. We appreciate your prayers as we make this transition.
In His Great Love,
Pastor Doug & Meg Kinney
